White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany is slamming the New York Times for suggesting President Donald Trump may not remain on the ballot following his COVID-19 diagnosis.

During her appearance on Fox News, host Harris Faulkner noted the story published by the New York Times claims, “If he becomes sick, it could raise questions about whether he should remain on the ballot at all.”

She asked McEnany what the White House’s response to the report is.

“What a ridiculous assertion by the New York Times. That may be the hope and the wish of the New York Times, but President Trump is the president of the United States,” McEnany said.

She added, “He’s on the ballot. He’s hard at work and look if you look at the jobs report just today those remarkable numbers, getting below 8% unemployment, no one thought that was possible. It’s a testament to what this president has done. He’s put his head down. He’s worked. He’s continuing to do that and he will all the way through November.”

Watch her remarks below:

Trump and his wife Melania announced on Friday they tested positive for COVID-19 and were going into quarantine, as IJR previously reported.

According to a White House official, their son Barron tested negative.

Another White House official said Trump is not incapacitated and is working in isolation. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows reported Trump was showing mild symptoms.

If Trump were to become incapacitated, The Republican National Committee would choose a replacement nominee.

It is too late to change the names on the ballot in most of the states.

Millions of voters have already received ballots, and according to data compiled by Professor Michael McDonald at the University of Florida, at least 2.2 million people have already voted.
