Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is predicting both Democrats and Republicans will have lawyers ready for tight Senate races and the presidential contest.

“You should not be shocked that both sides are going to have lawyers there both in these close Senate races and in the presidential contest,” McConnell said.

Watch his comments below:

"Claiming to win the election is different from finishing the counting," Mitch McConnell says, adding that Americans "should not be shocked" that Democrats and Republicans are both lawyering up for the close races https://t.co/fxHKy8hSEp pic.twitter.com/2pNlka2Jl4

The Kentucky lawmaker also said, “Well, it’s not unusual for people to claim they won the election. I can think of that happening on numerous occasions, but claiming you win the election is different from finishing the counting and what we’re going to see here in the next few days, both in the Senate races and in the presidential race, is each state will ultimately get to a final outcome.”

McConnell won reelection on Tuesday, as IJR reported.

It could take some time before control of the Senate is determined.

It may take days and, in certain instances, months to determine the results of at least five of the contests.

Based on a Reuters analysis of three nonpartisan U.S. elections forecasters — the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, the Cook Political Report and Inside Elections — Republicans are defending 12 seats while Democrats remain on defense in two races. There are 35 Senate seats are up for election in total.

If Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is elected, Democrats only need to win three Republican seats with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) holding the tie-breaking vote.

Currently, Republicans hold a 53-47 seat majority.

The presidential contest remains in the balance.

President Donald Trump falsely claimed victory on Wednesday, as IJR previously reported.

“We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election,” Trump said. “This is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner. So we’ll be going to the U.S. Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop.”
