Harris announced her husband, Doug Emhoff, would also be receiving the vaccine on Tuesday.
She expressed her confidence in scientists and encouraged Americans to get vaccinated.
“I trust the scientists and it is the scientists who created and approved this vaccine. So I urge everyone, when it is your turn, get vaccinated. It’s about saving your life, the life of your family members, and the life of your community,” Harris said.
She continued, “Thank you and let’s all just do what we need to do to stay healthy and safe this holiday season and every day of the year.”

President-elect Joe Biden received the vaccine publicly last week, as IJR previously reported.
He also voiced his appreciation for scientists and frontline workers who made receiving the vaccine possible.
“We owe these folks a lot. The scientists and the people who put this together, the frontline workers, the people who were the ones that did the clinical work. It’s just amazing,” Biden said.
Dr. Anthony Fauci told The New York Times it could take nearly 90% of Americans to get vaccinated before the nation reaches herd immunity, as IJR previously reported.
“We really don’t know what the real number is. I think the real range is somewhere between 70 to 90 percent. But, I’m not going to say 90 percent,” Fauci said.
He received some criticism for increasing his estimation from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
“Dr. Fauci lied about masks in March. Dr. Fauci has been distorting the level of vaccination needed for herd immunity. It isn’t just him,” Rubio wrote on Twitter Sunday.
He went on, “Many in elite bubbles believe the American public doesn’t know ‘what’s good for them’ so they need to be tricked into ‘doing the right thing.'”
