Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is sharing his thoughts on President Joe Biden’s decision to select Vice President Kamala Harris to handle the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Putting the vice president in charge of solving this problem is like making El Chapo the drug czar. I mean Kamala believes in open borders,” Kennedy said during an interview with the Daily Caller Wednesday.

The president also received criticism for his move from Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R), as IJR reported.

“She’s about the worst possible choice one could make,” Ducey said on Thursday. “At no point in her career has she given any indication that she considers the border a problem or a serious threat.”

He continued, “If President Biden’s intent was to show that he’s taking this issue seriously, he’s really done the exact opposite here. He’s completely trivialized this issue by putting someone in charge who flat out just doesn’t care.”

During a press conference at the border with other Republican senators on Friday, Kennedy called Biden’s border policy “bone deep, down to the marrow, stupid.”

He argued border patrol agents “want to go back to the border practices and the border security that existed on the day that President Biden was inaugurated.”

According to a top border official, more than a million migrants are expected to arrive at the southern border this year. A new report shows border facilities are holding more than double the number of children held in 2019 under the Trump administration.

During his first press conference since taking office, Biden told reporters his policies were not to blame for the surge of migrants at the border, as IJR reported.

“It happens every single solitary year. There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March… Does anybody suggest that there was a 31% increase under Trump because he was a nice guy and he was doing good things at the border? That’s not the reason they’re coming,” Biden said.
