Co-host of “The View” Meghan McCain is ripping into House Republican lawmakers as they are reportedly readying a vote to strip Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the No. 3 House Republican, of her leadership role.
On Wednesday, McCain questioned the wisdom of Republicans seeking to punish Cheney for being critical of former President Donald Trump and for publicly denouncing his unfounded claims that the presidential election was stolen.
She noted that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was reportedly heard blasting Cheney before he did an interview on “Fox & Friends.”
“Well, let’s cut the crap, [McCarthy] wasn’t caught on a hot mic. I think anyone in politics knows that was done intentionally,” McCain said.
She continued, “And what’s happening is, it’s very clear, and I’m going to be a little crass, they’re shivving her for her going on television multiple times and saying that the election wasn’t stolen and for refusing to debase herself to Cheeto Jesus.”
She also noted that she has tried to “accept, understand, and include the MAGA base of this party.”
Now, McCain claimed that McCarthy is sending a message that women “who refuse to bend the knee to President Trump but still remain loyal Republicans” do not have a place in the party and are instead “worthless” and “not worth fighting for to keep.”
“And the leadership in the party is doubling down that Trump is the future. Now, what happened when we doubled down that Trump is the future? We lost four, count ’em, four Senate seats in the last election in red states, including in my home state of Arizona. We lost a giant election spectacularly,” she charged.
She went on:
“And President Biden is expanding the government in a way that is the largest since LBJ that is what we should be focusing on. But instead, we are going to blood-let the party from women like me! College-educated women that lost you the election in the first place.”

Finally, McCain said, “I don’t understand it. It’s the most asinine politics I have seen in a really, really long time in a cacophony asinine politics. I feel very defensive of Liz Cheney. And if you do this, which it looks like they’re going to do, I promise you there will be consequences.”
Cheney is one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump on the charge of “incitement of insurrection.” While she previously survived an effort to strip her of her leadership role, her Republican colleagues have apparently grown frustrated with her willingness to criticize Trump’s election claims.
Now, lawmakers are reportedly planning another vote to strip her of her position as early as May 12.
And House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) has said he would support Trump-ally Rep. Elise Stefanik’s (R-N.Y.) bid to replace Cheney.
