New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) ate a meal from Shake Shack during a briefing to promote a deal where vaccinated people can get free food.

Shake Shack said in a statement, “Starting today, Thursday, May 13 while supplies last, New Yorkers can score a free ShackBurger voucher when they get vaccinated at one of the NYC mobile vaccine buses!”

The chain added, “Even sweeter? Now through Saturday, June 12, we’ll also be servin’ up free Crinkle Cut Fries to vaccinated New Yorkers with the purchase of any burger or chicken sandwich*. To redeem, just show a Team Member your vaccine card or Excelsior Pass before ordering in-store.”

Shake Shack is “excited to team up with the NYC Mayor’s Office to help get more New Yorkers vaccinated.”

De Blasio said during his briefing, “Free fries when you get vaccinated. I got vaccinated. You’re saying I could get this delicious fries? Wait a minute, but there’s also a burger element to this?”

He added, “I want you to look at this and think about, again some people love hamburgers and some don’t. We want to respect all ways of life, but if this is appealing to you, just think of this when you think of vaccinations. Mmm, vaccinations. I’m getting a very good feeling about vaccination right at this moment.”

Shake Shack is not the only one to offer people an incentive to get vaccinated.

Gov. Mike DeWine (R) announced on Wednesday the state will hold a drawing to award $1 million each week to an adult who has received at least the first dose of the vaccine.

“I know that some may say, ‘DeWine, you’re crazy! This million-dollar drawing idea of yours is a waste of money,” DeWine said.

He continued, “But truly, the real waste at this point in the pandemic – when the vaccine is readily available to anyone who wants it – is a life lost to COVID-19.”

More than 337 million doses of the vaccine have been delivered and over 264 million have been administered.
