Former Trump senior advisor Stephen Miller says it is “nonsense” to suggest that the United States is obligated to accept every Afghan refugee into the country.

During a Fox News interview Tuesday night, Miller told host Laura Ingraham, “The United States of America never, ever made a promise written or unwritten to the people of Afghanistan that if after 20 years, they were unable to secure their own country, that we would take them to ours. That is nonsense. That has never been U.S. government policy.”

He argued, “If the United States takes the policy that every person suffering under sharia law has a right to live in the United States of America, we’re gonna need to make room for about half a billion people. It’s just not intellectually serious.”

When asked what the poll would be from Americans on the matter, Miller responded, “It would be 90, 10, no. Here’s the bottom line to sum it all up, there’s a lot of people in Afghanistan, millions and millions of millions who don’t like the Taliban and rightly so. That does not necessarily mean that all those millions of people are Jacksonian Democrats who are pro-American and who will embrace our way of life.”

He continued, “The most logical thing to do for people who do not want to live in Afghanistan anymore is to find them a home in another country in Southeast Asia with the broader Middle East.”

Watch his interview below:

Ingraham expressed her appreciation for people who have helped the United States but “not hundreds of thousands of people – that, ultimately is what I think the left wants.”

According to NBC News, President Joe Biden wrote a memo earlier this week providing Secretary of State Antony Blinken with an additional $500 million for “unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs of refugees, victims of conflict, and other persons at risk as a result of the situation in Afghanistan, including applicants for Special Immigrant Visas.”

The president also said in a speech, “We’re also expanding refugee access to cover other vulnerable Afghans who work for our embassy.”
