U.S. Capitol Police are preparing for an upcoming protest organized in support of the rioters who were arrested after the attack on the Capitol on January 6.

USCP chief Tom Manger said Wednesday in a statement the department is “closely monitoring” the event, as Axios reports.

“After Jan. 6, we made department-wide changes to the way we gather and share intelligence internally and externally. I am confident the work we are doing now will make sure our officers have what they need to keep everyone safe,” Manger said.

According to WUSA9, the D.C. Metropolitan Police activated the entire force and even postponed vacation days. The rally, “Justice for J6,” is expected to be held on the grounds of the Capitol.

The department said in a statement to the outlet, “In anticipation of First Amendment activities on Saturday, September 18, 2021, the Metropolitan Police Department will be fully prepared.”

They added, “As with all First Amendment demonstrations, MPD will be monitoring and assessing the activities and planning accordingly with our federal law enforcement partners. MPD will have an increased presence around the city where demonstrations will be taking place and will be prepared to make street closures for public safety.”

WUSA9 also noted former campaign official for former President Donald Trump, Matt Braynard, announced the news of the rally during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s podcast.

Emily Miller, an assistant U.S. attorney and the Capitol Breach Discovery Coordinator, said in a court filing, “Based on a review of the body-worn-camera footage conducted by our Office, the footage displays approximately 1,000 events that may be characterized as assaults on federal officers” on January 6.

The Hill noted more than 570 individuals have been arrested since January 6. Roughly 140 police officers were assaulted. Of those officers, 80 were Capitol Police and 60 were D.C. Metropolitan officers.
