Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) were denied entry to visit defendants involved in the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Greene asked a D.C. jailer Wednesday, “What are you hiding?”

She added, “I’d like to see the whole facility. I’m concerned about every single person staying here.”

Greene argued as members of Congress they “have oversight over the district.”

Toward the end of the exchange, the jailer told Greene and Gohmert, “We’re finished.”

The lawmaker posted the video to Twitter, saying, “Today [Louie Gohmert] and myself were denied entry to visit Louie’s constituent [and] conduct oversight at the DC jail. I’m extremely concerned about the treatment of J6 defendants and now ALL inmates being held there.”

She continued, “Call the jail to demand oversight [and] transparency: 202.673.7316.”

Additionally, Greene posted a U.S. Marshal’s report showing the conditions of the facility “do not meet the minimum standards of confinement as prescribed by the Federal Performance-Based Detention standards.”

Due to the poor conditions, 400 prisoners were moved out of the facility. According to the report, the inspection of the Central Treatment Facility “did not identify conditions that would necessitate the transfer of inmates from that facility at this time.”

The report notes CTF houses roughly 120 detainees, including “all the defendants in pre-trial custody related to the alleged offenses stemming from events that took place on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol, as well as other federal detainees.”

Denied entry again to the DC Jail today, 1 day after the US Marshall’s report revealed that conditions in the DC Jail do NOT even meet “minimum standards of confinement.”

This is not the first time Greene and Gohmert were denied entry to visit January 6 defendants. In July, the lawmakers were joined by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for a visit to the D.C. Department of Corrections.

After being denied entry, Gohmert told the press in July, “The supervisor came down and was standing right here and turned her back on me. The other one said she won’t talk anymore and that we’re trespassers.”

He added, “We’re in totalitarian, Marxist territory here. This is the way third-world people get treated.”

A spokesperson for the D.C. Department of Corrections told The Hill at the time the three lawmakers showed up “unannounced with an unauthorized camera crew requesting a facility tour.”

The individual continued, “By doing so, these officials compromised safety and security operations at the DOC. Safety and security related to DOC’s facilities, staff and residents is a high priority and for that reason DOC has established procedures and protocols related to visits to its facilities. All visitors, which includes family members of residents, attorneys, and public officials, must adhere to the rules and procedures of the DOC.”
