Kayleigh McEnany Reportedly Turned Over Text Messages to Jan. 6 Committee

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 07: White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany leaves the podium after making a statement in the James Brady Press Briefing Room on January 07, 2021 in Washington, DC. Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany reportedly turned over text messages to the January 6 select committee.

ABC News reported the committee obtained the messages, citing a source familiar with the investigation into the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The outlet noted McEnany was subpoenaed by the committee for records and testimony in November.

In a subpoena letter to McEnany, Rep. Bennie Thompson, the committee’s chairman, wrote, “As White House press secretary, you made multiple public statements from the White House and elsewhere about purported fraud in the November 2020 election, which individuals who attacked the U.S. Capitol echoed on January 6.”

He added, “In addition, you were with former President Trump when he traveled to the Ellipse and spoke at the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally and ‘popped in and out’ to join Trump as he watched the attack on the U.S. Capitol later that afternoon.”

She proceeded to turn over text messages to investigators.

According to a source, McEnany’s text messages were referenced in a letter sent to Ivanka Trump.

Fox News host Sean Hannity texted McEnany, according to the records, “1 – no more stolen election talk. 2- Yes, impeachment and the 25th amendment are real and many people will quit.”

She allegedly responded, “Love that. Thank you. That is the playbook. I will help reinforce….”

Additionally, investigators are expected to receive McEnany’s White House files from the National Archives, as ABC News reported.

The report comes just days after the committee announced it had subpoenaed 14 individuals who served as “alternate electors.”

Thompson said in a statement, “The Select Committee is seeking information about attempts in multiple states to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including the planning and coordination of efforts to send false slates of electors to the National Archives.”

He continued, “We believe the individuals we have subpoenaed today have information about how these so-called alternate electors met and who was behind that scheme. We encourage them to cooperate with the Select Committee’s investigation to get answers about January 6th for the American people and help ensure nothing like that day ever happens again.”
