Pablo González, a freelance journalist who did work for The Voice of America, is reportedly being held in Poland over suspicion that he is a Russian Spy, according to a report.

Fox News reported Poland’s Internal Security Agency arrested González on February 28 on charges of spying for Russia’s foreign military intelligence service.

The agency said he faces up to 10 years in prison and is expected to be held for three months. According to Fox News, a spokesperson for VOA said González only posted six stories for the outlet. Still, he recently contributed to segment on Ukraine as a camera operator.

The outlet explained because of his status as a freelance journalist, there was no background investigation conducted on González.

Chuck Ross on Twitter: “Icymi: Alleged Russian Spy Worked for Voice of America, the U.S. government media agency. Polish authorities arrested Pablo Gonzalez last week on suspicion of spying for GRU. https://t.co/Wj1f5Twa4C” / Twitter

A spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “In short, as a matter of relevant federal rules, such background investigations are not available for freelancers (or any other contractors) who don’t access federal IT systems or facilities.”

VOA is “thoroughly reviewing” his past stories for the outlet and has removed his past work, as Fox News reported. The outlet mentioned audio published by Público of González addressing the accusations that he is a spy.

“I don’t know what they are going to invent, what they are going to explain,” he said, adding, “Then they come out with that song, that I was born in Russia, well yes…They have gone to everyone with the same mantra, presenting me as a pig who uses everyone as cover.”
