White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci did not receive a positive response as he went to throw the first pitch at a baseball game.

Before going out to throw the first pitch at a Major League baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees, fans could be heard booing Fauci.

In addition to throwing the first pitch, Fauci received the Hutch Award.

According to the Mariner’s website, the award “was created in 1965 in honor of Fred Hutchinson, the former MLB pitcher and manager who died from lung cancer the previous year.”

The honor was also “established by his longtime friends and is given annually to an active MLB player who ‘best exemplifies the fighting spirit and competitive desire’ of Hutchinson, by persevering through adversity.”

This is not the first time Fauci has thrown out the first pitch at a game.

Did he deserve the boos?

In 2020, he threw out a pitch before a game between the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees.

Trump previously mocked Fauci’s pitching arm.

“Actually, Tony’s pitching arm is far more accurate than his prognostications. ‘No problem, no masks’.” Trump said.

Fauci has become known as the face of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last month, the infectious-diseases expert confirmed to The Washington Post that he plans to retire by the end of Biden’s time at the White House.

“By the time we get to the end of the Biden administration term, I feel it would be time for me to step down from this position,” Fauci said.

CNBC noted that Fauci has sparked criticism over what many believe was a “heavy-handed” response to the pandemic.
