Actress Sydney Sweeney fired back at critics over comments about her mother’s birthday party.
On Sunday, the “Euphoria” actress posted images from the party on Instagram, saying, “No better way to celebrate my momma than a surprise hoedown.”
Other photos from the party surfaced appearing to show a man wearing a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt and hats resembling “Make America Great Again” hats worn by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Sweeney took to Twitter after her family received criticism over what many assumed was a political statement.
“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!” Sweeney tweeted.

Still, her response was not enough for some.
Occupy Democrats responded, “Except for the fact that your family wore red MAGA hats and even Blue Lives Matter shirts, a movement that was created to mock and spit in the face of Black people who are protesting police brutality and structural racism in America. It’s political and it’s intentional.”

rich white people will make "innocent" and "light-hearted" jokes out of violent political dogma and symbolism because it literally does not affect them.

The plight and oppression of marginalized groups is nothing more than a depressing post they have to scroll past on their feed https://t.co/xBwNmqUzua
I hate when people take the road of gaslighting versus accountability. https://t.co/n2awaKN4BN

Your family includes Fascists. Hey, we get it; family is complicated.

But your family is still larded with Fascists and pretending that’s a trick of the light just makes folks wonder about you, dear. https://t.co/drv8Gcv45L

The outrage comes just over a month after Sweeney earned two first-time Emmy Awards nominations.
“I’m excited, I’m in disbelief, I’m beyond appreciative,” Sweeney told People.
She added, “It’s a great day!”
The actress explained at the time that she was in “pre-production for Madame Webb, so I’m kind of all over the place today going from fittings to rehearsals to table reads.”
She continued, “I was in the car and my phone started blowing up. I saw it and I called my mom. Then, I called my team, then my dad, then my brother. I was just … sitting in the car!”
