Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) referenced actor Will Smith’s viral Oscars slap while taking a swipe at President Joe Biden.

During an appearance on Fox News, Kennedy commented on Biden’s lack of popularity among Americans and his effort to convince Americans to “hate Republicans more than the American people hate” him.

Kennedy argued that it is “not just Republicans who think that the president is barking mad.”

He added, “Many Independents and Democrats also disagree with him.”

Calling the new tactic “star-spangled stupid,” Kennedy explained, “Maybe the White House should call Will Smith over and ask him to slap some sense into the teleprompter.”

According to RealClearPolitics, the president’s approval rating stands at 42.2% while his disapproval rating has reached 54.8%.

The Washington Post noted while Biden might not be too popular, Democrats appear to be turning a corner ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

A Yahoo News/YouGov poll released on Tuesday found that Democrats currently hold a 3-percentage point lead over Republicans in terms of registered voters planning on voting in the midterms.

The poll was conducted from September 2 to 6 and surveyed 1,634 adults.

However, Republican campaigns are expected to receive support from former President Donald Trump.

Trump’s political advisers are reportedly engaging in early discussions with campaigns about using him on the campaign trail.

Over the weekend, the former president took aim at Biden and other Democrats.

“Our country is going to hell,” Trump said.

He added, “Above all, this election is a referendum on the corruption and extremism of Joe Biden and the radical Democratic Party.”

Still, Republicans have expressed their concerns with Trump related to the midterm elections.

Last week, some Republicans voiced concerns that the attention on the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago would complicate the “referendum they anticipated” on Biden, as The New York Times reported.
