Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval (D) issued a response after being criticized by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Kelce made the criticism after the team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.

While speaking with a reporter after the game, Kelce said, “I appreciate ya’ll. How about this beautiful trophy?”

He added, “I’ve got some wise words for that Cincinnati mayor: Know your role and shut your mouth, you jabroni. You’ve got to fight for your right to party!”

Kelce went on to hold the trophy up.

A jabroni is defined as a “stupid, foolish, or contemptible person; loser.”

Pureval reacted to the moment, saying, “Yeah. Deserved that. Congrats to KC on a well-fought win, and good luck in Arizona.”

He added, “Proud of our fans and our [Bengals] for the energy all year. Who Dey!”

The mayor not only received criticism from Kelce but also from the team’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

After the game, Mahomes told reporters, “The mayor came at me, man. He’s the mayor of Cincinnati, so he’s gotta think about something.”

Pureval previously declared the Sunday matchup as, “They Gotta Play Us Day.”

The mayor noted in his proclamation Mahomes’ 0-3 record against Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Additionally, he joked officials have asked Burrow to take a paternity test to determine whether he is the father of Mahomes.

The Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will battle it out at Super Bowl 57 on February 12 in Arizona.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid praised both Mahoes and Kelce for their performances.

“He was pure grit, he and (Travis) Kelce,” Reid said.

He added, “For Pat to do what he did and then to have that run at the end… I can’t say enough. He is the MVP, in my eyes.”

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt also shared his praise for Mahomes.

“Andy and I were talking about Patrick earlier in the week, and I mentioned to him that the great ones always find a way to get it done, particularly when they’re facing adversity,” Hunt said.

He continued, “Patrick certainly showed that tonight.”
