The Congressional baseball game was briefly interrupted by climate protesters who stormed the field.

On Wednesday, activist organization Climate Defiance shared a series of posts on X about the demonstration.

“BREAKING: We have taken the field at the Congressional Baseball Game + play has FROZEN! Congress sends billions of public $$ to subsidize deadly fossil fuels — but the police are tackling us instead. This Chevron-sponsored game cannot continue. This is unconscionable,” the organization wrote.

It shared a video of video of protesters climbing onto the field during the game — and getting tackled and arrested shortly after landing on the field.

In a separate thread, the group claimed, “We were brutalized tonight – beaten and bruised as we took over the Congressional Baseball Game. Our bodies are bloodied but our spirits are unmoved. We will build a better world. We will rise again. We will prevail. Just you wait.”

Climate defiance also argued, “Make no mistake: It’s the Members of Congress who should be locked up.”

The Capitol Police posted on X, “We are proud of our officers who are working to keep everyone safe during tonight’s Congressional Baseball Game for Charity.”

“Before the charity game, we were aware that some people planned to possibly protest. This was discussed during our planning meetings and put in our comprehensive action plan to ensure we had plenty of resources to swiftly respond,” it added.

It also stated, “When eight people tried to protest on the field, our officers quickly stopped them and arrested them. The eight people are being charged with federal charges – Interference with a Member of the U.S. Capitol Police.”
