GovTrack Rating Harris ‘Most Liberal’ Senator in 2019 Disappears

WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 22: U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris attends an NCAA championship teams celebration on the South Lawn of the White House on July 22, 2024 in Washington, DC. U.S. President Joe Biden abandoned his campaign for a second term after weeks of pressure from fellow Democrats to withdraw and just months ahead of the November election, throwing his support behind Harris. There are some signs of struggle in Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign when it comes to Black and Latino voters in the Sun Belt.

She is trailing behind how President Joe Biden was doing in 2020, according to Harry Enten, CNN’s senior political reporter.

Enten was on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” and spoke about former President Donald Trump’s slight lead in the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina.

On average there is a gap between the Great Lakes & Sun Belt battleground states. Trump is outperforming in the Sun Belt, while Harris is holding in the Great Lakes.

Why? Could be that 2024 Trump's coalition is more racially diverse, & the Sun Belt states are more diverse. pic.twitter.com/yJQfajTyLn

Harris is also trailing behind what Biden had with Hispanic and Black voters in that region, per Fox News.

“I think this is really interesting,” Enten said as he showed a breakdown of support for Harris compared to the support Biden enjoyed in 2020 in Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina.

“Hispanic voters, four years ago, Joe Biden won that vote 66% in the Sun Belt,” he said. “Look at where we are now, Kamala Harris at just 52%, so Kamala Harris struggling among Hispanic voters. Donald Trump doing considerably better than he did four years ago.”

“How about Black voters?” Enten said. “Kamala Harris, again, leading here by a significant margin, right? She‘s getting 83% of that vote, but that is significantly short of Joe Biden‘s 92%.”

“So the bottom line is, in the Sun Belt, which is much more diverse than the northern battleground states up in the Great Lakes, Kamala Harris is struggling among voters of color,” he said.

Voters in the Sun Belt are mostly concerned with the economy/inflation with 31% focusing on that.

Immigration and abortion tie for second at 16%, Enten said, adding, economy/inflation and immigration issues are “great for Donald Trump.”

Tapper asked Enten what would happen if Harris won the less diverse blue wall states up north and Trump was victorious in the Sun Belt.

“Oh my goodness, look how close this race is —276 electoral votes to Donald Trump’s 262 because she carries these Great Lake battleground states, even if she loses in North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona,” Enten replied. “But the bottom line is this, Mr. Tapper, this race is way too close to call based upon the polling that I currently see.”
