The Miller family in Illinois has a lot to be thankful for this holiday.

And they are showing their appreciation by saving a seat at their Thanksgiving table for a special guest.

The seat is saved for Jaylen Lockhart, a United States Postal Service (USPS) worker, who helped Guy Miller on Nov. 16, per a report in People.

That’s when Miller was walking his dog in Aurora and fell.

Lockhart told NBC Chicago he saw Miller “tumble” as he looked at his truck’s rearview mirror. He jumped into action by calling 911. He then asked some neighbors for Miller’s address notified his wife, Marcia, that had happened.

“I wasn’t sure exactly what I was getting myself into. But I did know that whatever he was going through on that ground, we were going to go through it together,” Lockart told WLS-TV.

A post on the city government’s official Facebook account, said Miller is “bruised but will be ok.”

“Jaylen’s quick-thinking, selfless actions helped to save the day,” the post read.

In appreciation for his actions, Lockhart and his family received an invitation to the Millers’ home for Thanksgiving.

“I said, ‘What are you doing for Thanksgiving? You have family? Yeah?’ We said, ‘We’re family, definitely,'” Marcia told. It is “just really good to see kindness and compassion and care in the world.”

But Lockhart received much more than a dinner invitation — he lit the tree at the annual Aurora Winter Lights Fest, received the Mayor’s Award of Service by Mayor Richard Irvin.

“You make us all Aurora proud,” Irvin said at the ceremony, WFLD reported.

The moment was a special one for Lockhart.

“I’m blessed and so glad that I was chosen to do this,” Lockhart said to WFLD. “I will hold this near and dear to my heart.”
