British journalist Piers Morgan argued on his show Friday with liberal streamer Destiny after Destiny said President Donald Trump didn’t have the authority to cut government funds, like those from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Since the announcement of USAID’s restructuring and its transfer to the leadership of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Democratic lawmakers have pushed back against Trump and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader Elon Musk. On “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Destiny said that Trump’s and DOGE’s actions were unlawful, adding the president couldn’t “unilaterally” make decisions based on “what he likes or doesn’t like.”

“Well, actually, hang on,” Morgan said. “I was going to say, look, that’s not actually correct. He’s entitled to do this.”

Destiny, however, attempted to interrupt Morgan before Morgan pushed back, saying that Democrats, like New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, challenged the courts when they didn’t rule in the party’s favor.

“There can be legal challenges. Trump made it clear in the Oval Office yesterday he would accept what a judge said,” Morgan said. “Now, by contrast, I remember Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, when it came to the Texas ruling in a court by a judge about abortion medication. For example, she said that the Democrats should not accept what that judge had ruled.”

“So why is it one rule for Democrats that they can ignore a judge’s order with impunity? But when President Trump says, ‘If you want to challenge this, no problem. I would accept the ruling of the judge,’” Morgan said. “Isn’t that democracy?”

Destiny then snapped back at Morgan, asking what years Ocasio-Cortez served as president. Morgan asked why that was a relevant question. The two continued to argue over Ocasio-Cortez’s position in government, with Destiny insisting she isn’t in the same branch as Trump.

Morgan highlighted how former President Joe Biden attempted to overhaul the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on student loans, as it had been one of his vows during his 2020 campaign.

“President Biden did the same over student loans,” Morgan said. “When the Supreme Court shut him down in one thing, then he took a different avenue.  It was not the same. President Biden did not ignore temporary restraining orders.”

“I just said other people have said over and over, I’m sorry, Piers — Vance and others have made it clear over and over again. They’ve quoted the Andrew Jackson quote, and they’ve said, ‘Well, we should just resist the judiciary.’ It is not part of law and order. It’s not part of checks and balances for the executive to say, ‘Well, I don’t care what a judge says. We’ll just do whatever.’ Which is what they’re currently doing,” Destiny said.

Just days before leaving office, Biden’s administration announced on Jan. 13 that it had decided to forgive student loan debt for an additional 150,000 people, bringing the total amount forgiven to $183.6 billion, accumulated by more than 5 million borrowers.

While Trump has said he would follow the judge’s orders, Democrats have filed dozens of lawsuits against his administration’s plans to cut government waste. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. dissolved his temporary freeze, allowing Trump to proceed with offering federal employees payouts.
