Abbott Orders Arrest Of Lawmakers Who Left The State

HUNT, TEXAS - JULY 08: Gov. Greg Abbott speaks at a news conference on July 08, 2025 in Hunt, Texas. Gov. Abbott announced more than 160 people still missing after deadly floods early Friday. Last week, heavy rainfall caused severe flash flooding along the Guadalupe River in central Texas, leaving more than 100 people reported dead, including children attending Camp Mystic. And just like that, the Texas Democrats have gone full-on political fugitives.

No, seriously. Instead of showing up to do their jobs—you know, the thing taxpayers pay them to do—they packed their bags, fled the state, and are now facing arrest warrants thanks to Governor Greg Abbott, who finally did what Republican voters have been begging for: call their bluff and bring in the law.

Let’s be clear—this isn’t some movie plot where the plucky underdogs escape tyranny to stand up for democracy. This is a group of elected lawmakers actively sabotaging their own legislative body to block a redistricting plan they don’t like. So they fled. Literally. Like they’re on the lam. And now, the Governor is sending the Texas Rangers to drag them back to work. You can’t make this stuff up.

Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty and are holding flood relief and property tax cuts hostage.

I ordered Texas DPS to arrest and return every derelict House Democrat to the Texas Capitol.

This order will remain in effect until all missing Democrats are accounted for. pic.twitter.com/A87u2JxYU7

Oh, but it gets juicier.

Abbott didn’t stop with the arrest orders. He’s also asking the Rangers to investigate these disappearing Democrats for bribery. Why? Because, apparently, some of them are getting donations to pay off the $500-a-day fines they racked up for abandoning their posts. Now, it doesn’t take a legal genius to raise an eyebrow at the idea of donors paying elected officials to not do their jobs. That’s not exactly civic virtue. That’s a potential felony wrapped in a hashtag.

Abbott isn’t playing games with these criminal Democrats! He will mark their seats as VACANT & hopefully arrest them! #txlege 👇 pic.twitter.com/A6ab7YZKbo

But wait—don’t look at the redistricting! That’s the one thing nobody in GOP leadership wants to talk about out loud. It’s the political third rail, and everyone’s acting like it’s not humming with 20,000 volts. Abbott, House Speaker Dustin Burrows, Attorney General Ken Paxton—they’re all framing this whole debacle around “flood relief,” “property taxes,” and “human trafficking legislation.” Which, sure, those are important. But everyone knows this showdown is about one thing: control.

Republicans want to redraw the congressional map to pick up five more seats. Democrats are calling it a “naked power grab.” And to be fair? Well… maybe it is. Welcome to politics.

Still, that doesn’t give them a free pass to abandon ship and stall the entire legislative process. If Republicans tried this stunt, the media would have already melted into a puddle of moral outrage. Every late-night host would be howling. But since it’s Democrats? Suddenly it’s a “principled stand.” Suddenly it’s “resistance.” Right.

Meanwhile, in the middle of all this, conservative firebrand and professional troll Alex Stein made his own cameo. He crashed an NBC News Now live report to yell “MSNBC sucks!” on-air, completely derailing the segment about—you guessed it—the Texas Dems running for the hills. Stein’s moment? Brief, ridiculous, and honestly, perfectly symbolic of where Dem’s are at: a circus, and the clowns are in charge of the legislature.

MSNBC is the saddest excuse for a “news” network and telling them they suck on their own airwaves feels fantastic pic.twitter.com/WvKYusfKxg

And let’s not forget Ken Paxton, always ready to crank things up to 11. He’s calling these runaway Dems “jet-setting” traitors and demanding they face “the full force of the law.” This is the same Paxton who got a green light from the state Supreme Court four years ago to arrest lawmakers who break quorum. The legal tools have been there. Now, the GOP is actually using them.

Which raises the question: Why did it take this long?

Why did it take lawmakers fleeing the state and bragging about fundraisers to finally hit the limit? Maybe it’s because the stakes are higher than usual. Maybe it’s because Republicans are done playing nice. Or maybe it’s because President Trump has made it clear—again—that leadership means showing a spine, not sending a sternly worded letter.

Whatever the reason, this is the new GOP: gloves off, game on, no more patience for runaway theatrics.

🚨🚨BREAKING : Jesse Watters just reported that Gov. Abbott has sent a team to apprehend the Texas Democrats who ran…..

“Governor Abbott’s sending out a posse to arrest them for dereliction of duty and drag them back to the capital. They told us no one is above the law.”

“If… pic.twitter.com/il2CRI9J5U

And if Democrats thought they could hop on a private jet and play victims while holding the legislative process hostage—they just got a very loud, very Texan wake-up call.
