Oh, Florida. Just when you think the ideological bias in public schools couldn’t get more obvious, Gainesville High School steps up and says, “Hold my syllabus.” A teenage boy with conservative values was literally voted “Most Likely to Become a Dictator” by his classmates — with full approval and participation from his history teacher. Because, you know, that’s totally appropriate behavior from a taxpayer-funded educator in a public school setting.

Let’s take a breath here. Or maybe not.

Because what you’re about to read isn’t just another headline about left-wing bias in schools. This one’s personal. It’s targeted. It’s petty. And it’s downright embarrassing — not for the student, but for every adult in the room who allowed it to happen.

And make no mistake: they didn’t just “allow” it. They encouraged it.

Lauren Watts — a history teacher mind you, whose job is to, presumably, teach kids the difference between tyranny and diplomacy — handed out a classroom superlative certificate that literally said, “Most Likely to Become a Dictator.” Let that sink in. A teacher. Printed. A certificate. For a student. And made a room full of teenagers vote on it.

Phew. This is the Gainesville teacher, Lauren Watts, who branded a student a dictator because he wasn’t liberal enough for her. https://t.co/94y9r3v3ac pic.twitter.com/0vVFeVzNDu

This wasn’t a joke. It wasn’t a mix-up. This was classroom theater with a political punchline.

A certificate given to the student by his own history teacher.

So what was the kid’s offense? Was he running a student spy ring? Organizing military drills during lunch? Nope. His crime was being conservative. His interests? History. ROTC. Dreams of becoming a U.S. diplomat — you know, the folks who prevent dictatorships from happening in the first place.

But let’s not stop there. Apparently, another student twisted those ambitions online and rebranded him as a “dictator” — and that was all Ms. Watts needed to turn the smear into a classroom award. And when the student — rightfully — refused to accept the “honor,” she tried to force him to come up to the front of the class. Because nothing says “tolerant and inclusive education” like public shaming.

Here’s the part that really boils your blood: the district didn’t respond when the mom, Crystal Marull, reached out. Silence. Crickets. And only after she brought the certificate to a State Board of Education meeting — yes, she literally held it up like exhibit A in a courtroom — did the school finally put the teacher on administrative leave. Not fired. Leave. Pending investigation, of course.

Let’s connect a few dots.

This is the same district where her six-year-old son — six — was allegedly barred from sitting next to his friend on the school bus because of Mom’s conservative views. And the same district where a sitting school board chair, Sarah Rockwell, thought it was appropriate to say “one less MAGA in the world” after the death of Hulk Hogan. Let that roll around in your head. A child gets shamed in class, and a district official is posting death celebration memes.

Florida mom Crystal Marull testified before the state Board of Ed on Aug. 20, 2025, about a 2023 incident at Gainesville High where teacher Lauren Watts let classmates label her son a “Naziphile” over his WWII history interest & ROTC involvement. Watts nominated him “Most Likely… https://t.co/tpXdCP3Y80

But don’t worry, Rockwell later clarified it was just a “cruel and flippant comment.”

Gee, thanks. That really clears it up.

So here’s the real issue: This isn’t about one rogue teacher or one tasteless comment. It’s about a culture. A festering, one-sided, ideological bubble in which conservative students aren’t just disagreed with — they’re mocked, ridiculed, and publicly humiliated for having the wrong opinions.

And you wonder why conservative parents are pulling their kids out of public schools. You wonder why school board meetings have become the new battleground. Because when a teenager is laughed at for being patriotic, called a Nazi for liking history, and nominated as a dictator for dreaming about serving his country, something is rotten deep in the core of the system.

But hey — at least he didn’t misgender anyone, right?
