Former Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter was put on blast Wednesday on “The Morning Meeting” by former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine over a September interview that drew new attention this week.

After CBS News California’s Julie Watts pressed Porter for an answer on how her campaign planned to reach the 40% of Californians who voted for President Donald Trump, the Democrat accused Watts of being “argumentative” and threatened to storm out. Turrentine suggested on the 2WAY show that he had personally witnessed Porter’s condescension while she was in Congress. “I have spent a lot of time around that office. For those who don’t know, she went to Harvard Law School. [Democratic Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren was one of her professors. She considers herself kind of an acolyte of Elizabeth Warren,” Turrentine said. “She is condescending and patronizing. She absolutely believes that she is right, you are wrong, she’s smarter than you. It comes across.”

“She doesn’t respect Trump voters and she didn’t respect those type of questions,” he added. “You just can’t talk to people like that. And that is Katie Porter’s problem. It’s why so many people dislike her and disliked her in Congress.”

Porter previously faced accusations of belittling staff members and spewing “racist” remarks, Politico reported in 2023. Moreover, divorce documents obtained by the Daily Mail that same year allege that Porter poured a bowl of “steaming hot boiled potatoes” over her then-husband’s head.

Porter is leading in the Democratic primary, but trails Republican candidate Steve Hilton by 6%, according to a Zogby Strategies poll conducted with a messaging retest.

Turrentine said he still believed Porter was the “front-runner,” arguing she maintained strong support from the Democratic “base.”

Porter served in Congress from 2019 to 2025 and ran for Senate, but Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff defeated her in 2024. She garnered around 15% of the vote in the Senate election and asserted that the primary was rigged by billionaires.
