Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that three of his New York offices were targeted with emailed bomb threats referencing the 2020 presidential election.

According to The Associated Press, the threats, sent from an email address claiming the “2020 election was rigged,” targeted Schumer’s offices in Rochester, Binghamton, and Long Island, with the subject line reading simply “MAGA.”

“Local and federal law enforcement responded immediately and are conducting full security sweeps,” Schumer said in a statement. “Everyone is safe, and I am grateful for their quick and professional response to ensure these offices remain safe and secure for all New Yorkers.”

A law enforcement source confirmed that Suffolk County police responded to the Long Island office but declined to provide further details because the investigation is ongoing. The U.S. Capitol Police also declined comment, citing security protocols for members of Congress.

Schumer condemned the threats, emphasizing that violence has no place in American politics. “These kinds of violent threats have absolutely no place in our political system,” he said.

The bomb threats come amid ongoing claims from President Donald Trump that the 2020 election was “rigged” or “stolen.”

Should violent threats against political offices be condemned unequivocally?

While Trump has repeatedly disputed the election results, courts rejected dozens of lawsuits challenging the outcome, and election officials certified the votes in all 50 states.

Authorities continue to investigate the threats, and Schumer’s offices are maintaining heightened security while the sweep of all locations is completed.

The incidents underscore growing concerns over politically motivated threats against public officials, particularly in the context of ongoing misinformation about past elections.

Schumer’s statement thanked law enforcement for their swift response and called for vigilance to ensure that elected officials and their staff can operate safely without fear of intimidation.
