Well, well, well — looks like wearing a black robe doesn’t come with a free pass to interfere with federal law enforcement. Who knew? Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan just found out the hard way, after a jury slapped her with a felony conviction for allegedly helping an illegal immigrant duck out the back door of her courtroom while ICE agents were waiting to serve a warrant. You read that right — an actual sitting judge was just convicted of obstructing immigration enforcement. Welcome to 2025, where the law is still the law… at least sometimes.
So, here’s how it went down: back in April, ICE agents were at the courthouse to detain Eduardo Flores-Ruiz. According to prosecutors, Judge Dugan allegedly learned they were in the building and, instead of letting the justice system do its job, she did what any activist in a robe might do — she helped him and his attorney sneak out a back door. Not only did she allegedly undermine federal law enforcement, but she did it from the bench, in her official capacity, right in the middle of a courthouse. Bold strategy.
Remember the Milwaukee Judge that tried to help an illegal immigrant escape from ICE at her court? A jury just convicted her.
The jury found Judge Hannah Dugan guilty of obstructing ICE. She faces up to 5 yrs in prison.
Never forget, Democrats defended this crime.

And while she was acquitted on a lesser misdemeanor charge, the felony obstruction count stuck — and that one could land her five years in prison. You’d think that would be enough to make headlines coast to coast, but somehow the national media seems more interested in rehashing decade-old Trump tweets than reporting on a judge actively obstructing immigration law enforcement. Strange, isn’t it?
Now, her legal team is already doing the full song and dance — “We’re disappointed,” “She did nothing wrong,” “Public support is critical.” Oh, and let’s not forget the defense fund plea. Nothing says “I totally stand by my actions” like begging the public to pay your legal bills. But let’s be honest here: this isn’t some noble cause. This is a judge who, allegedly, took it upon herself to short-circuit the very justice system she swore to uphold. And now she’s facing the consequences.

“I’ll do it. I’ll get the heat.”
Should Judge Dugan be disqualified from future public office after her conviction? She got it.

What’s even more outrageous? She was suspended with pay. That’s right — while awaiting trial on a felony count, Dugan was still pulling in her $175,000 taxpayer-funded salary. Only in the modern progressive paradise could you allegedly help someone avoid lawful arrest and still get paid handsomely to stay home. And no, the Wisconsin Supreme Court hasn’t yet clarified whether they’ll finally pull the plug on that paycheck now that the guilty verdict has landed. Don’t hold your breath.
Federal officials weren’t exactly mincing words, either. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said it best: “Nobody is above the law.” Not even those who wear robes and sit behind elevated benches. And thank goodness for that, because if Dugan had walked away scot-free, it would’ve sent the loudest possible message that rogue officials can ignore immigration law if it makes them feel good. Fortunately, at least for now, we’re not completely off the rails.
And let’s not ignore the bigger picture here. Dugan’s case isn’t some bizarre, isolated incident. It’s just the latest chapter in a growing trend of public officials who seem to believe their ideology gives them a moral override button. Whether it’s sanctuary city mayors refusing to cooperate with ICE, DAs who won’t prosecute crime because it’s not “equitable,” or now judges allegedly assisting illegal immigrants in evading arrest — it’s all the same story: progressive officials placing their personal politics over the rule of law.
But this time? The system bit back.
So now, Judge Dugan — who once presided over cases and handed out judgments — is looking at a prison sentence of up to five years. And she’s already disqualified from holding public office again under Wisconsin law. Good. Actions have consequences, even for the people who are supposed to enforce those consequences on others.
Maybe next time, she’ll let the law do what it was designed to do. And maybe—just maybe—we’ll stop pretending that courtroom activism is justice.
