Oh, the horror — Donald Trump’s name might share a building with John F. Kennedy’s, and the left is acting like someone just spray-painted “MAGA” across the Lincoln Memorial. Calm down, everyone. No one’s erasing Camelot. But the meltdown? Glorious. You’d think Trump was personally hauling JFK’s bust out of the building and replacing it with a gold statue of himself holding a Big Mac.

Here’s the gist: the Kennedy Center — yes, that Kennedy Center, D.C.’s shrine to the arts and elite cocktail hours — is apparently getting a rebrand. According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the board voted unanimously to rename it the Trump-Kennedy Center. Emphasis on “unanimously,” although of course, one board member is already crying foul and claiming she was muted on the call. Because nothing screams “principled dissent” like blaming the mute button.

Now, before the usual suspects faint from performative outrage, let’s just lay it out: Trump is the guy who secured $257 million to fix up the place. That’s not a rounding error. That’s real investment, after years of this beloved “national treasure” slipping into decline under the ever-watchful eye of artsy liberal mismanagement. So, naturally, he’s getting a little credit — maybe just enough to slap his name on the sign next to JFK’s. Not above. Not instead of. Next to. Relax.

But you’d think Trump was bulldozing the place based on the reaction from the Kennedy clan. Maria Shriver called it “beyond comprehension,” “obsessive,” and “downright weird.” That’s a lot of adjectives for something that basically amounts to, “The guy who fixed the roof wants his name on the mailbox.” And Joe Kennedy III chimed in with some hand-wringing about federal law, as if we haven’t seen institutions renamed and “reimagined” on a political whim a thousand times before — usually in the other direction.

The best part? Congressman Steve Cohen — a man who seemingly wakes up every morning thinking about Trump — called it “a sacrilege.” Sacrilege? We’re not talking about renaming the Vatican. We’re talking about a performing arts center that’s been coasting on historical sentiment and government subsidies for decades. Meanwhile, Trump made it solvent, made it shine, and yes, made it great again. Is it really so scandalous that the guy who saved it gets some permanent acknowledgment?

Let’s also not ignore the real trigger here: it’s not about preserving Kennedy’s legacy. It’s about loathing Trump’s. Period. The same people who cheered when statues were torn down, schools were renamed, and historical landmarks were “re-contextualized” are now suddenly pearl-clutching traditionalists because Trump’s name might appear in bronze lettering. The hypocrisy? Chef’s kiss.

Folks, who would have thought this is what would drive them nuts? On the left-wing social media site Bluesky, it was hilarious insanity:

Trump actually thinks that changing the name of Kennedy center is going to make NORMAL people go OH ITS NOT BAD GOOD FOR HIM

Instead it infuriates most Americans and confirms the POS he really is. MAN CHILD

They are claiming it’s illegal:

Should the Kennedy Center be renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center?

I’m appalled to see Trump betray the memory of President Kennedy and rename the Kennedy Center. It’s illegal and I will do everything in my power to fight Trump and stop this selfish and egotistical move, including introducing legislation ASAP.

The Kennedy Center is a living memorial to a fallen president and named for President Kennedy by federal law. It can no sooner be renamed than can someone rename the Lincoln Memorial, no matter what anyone says.

And just to keep things spicy, critics are throwing in side gripes — like how Trump renamed the Department of Defense to the “Department of War” back in September. (Which, for the record, is what it used to be called.) Or how he’s renovating the White House — also something presidents have done for centuries. But when Trump does it? Apparently it’s “weird,” “obsessive,” and “beneath the stature of the job.” Right. Because nothing says dignity like tweeting all-caps rants about the sanctity of a performing arts center.

And yes, there are still some questions about whether Trump even has the formal authority to rename the building. Congress did name it the Kennedy Center back in the 60s. But given the board is stacked with Trump allies — thanks to, you guessed it, Democrats losing elections — it’s no surprise the vote went his way. Laura Ingraham, Usha Vance, Pam Bondi — they all voted yes. And if you’re keeping score, that’s what happens when you win elections: you get to make decisions. Wild concept.

So is this renaming a “sacrilege,” or is it just one more example of the left’s favorite pastime — melting down over anything with Trump’s name on it, no matter how earned? Either way, the Trump-Kennedy Center is now a symbol of something much bigger: a former president who just won’t fade quietly into the background, no matter how desperately his critics want him to.

And love him or hate him, Trump’s name is already in the history books. Now, it might just be on the Kennedy Center too.
