Actor Mickey Rourke voluntarily surrendered a shotgun, saying he no longer wanted it.
This action is the latest of news events surrounding Rourke, including facing eviction from a house he is rented in Los Angeles and the subsequent GoFundMe campaign he ultimately denounced, People reported.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said a member of Rourke’s team called Wednesday, per KNBC.
Deputies spoke with Rourke, 73, about the firearm, which was legally registered. They took the gun for safekeeping.
Rourke said he was leaving the area and did not want the firearm.
KNBC reported that if he does not claim the gun after a year, it would be destroyed.
Earlier this month, a GoFundMe campaign was announced in light of news the actor allegedly owes about $61,000 in past-due rent.
Liya-Joelle Jones, who called herself an assistant to Rourke’s manager Kimberly Hines, started the GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $100,000. Donations have been “paused” after $91,781 was raised.
The fundraiser was titled “Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home. The description claimed that it was “created with Mickey’s full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent eviction.”
However, Rourke said he had no knowledge of the fundraiser.
In an Instagram post Monday, Rourke stated, “That’s not me, OK?”
Rourke called it a “humiliating” campaign.
“If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f*****g charity.”
Rourke said he would “never ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel. That’s not my style.”
Hines told “The Hollywood Reporter” the fundraiser was created by Rourke’s team and he was informed of it. She added he may not have understood at the time.
They have “moved him out of his house” and claimed the home had “black mold” and no running water.
