A tragic attack at a Fairfax County bus stop left the community reeling Monday when Stephanie Minter, 41, was fatally stabbed by Abdul Jalloh, an illegal immigrant with a decades-long criminal record.
According to the New York Post, Minter, a Fredericksburg resident, was found in a bus shelter on Richmond Highway with multiple stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Jalloh, a 32-year-old from Sierra Leone, was identified as the suspect after surveillance footage showed him exiting a bus alongside Minter.
He was arrested the following day after being spotted entering a local business. He now faces charges of second-degree murder as well as petit larceny, police said.
According to federal authorities, Jalloh entered the United States illegally in 2012 and has amassed more than 30 arrests, including for rape, assault, drug possession, identity theft, and weapons violations.
In 2020, an ICE detainer was issued, and a judge granted a final order of removal to a third country — a policy later deemed unlawful by a federal court.
“Stephanie will be sorely and dearly missed, with the world missing out on that beam of light we came to know so well,” her obituary said, describing her as a “happy, jolly individual, filled with love and adoration for her loved ones.” She is survived by her son, mother, three brothers, grandmother, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The motive for Minter’s murder remains under investigation, and authorities have not confirmed any prior relationship between the victim and Jalloh.
Jalloh remains in custody without bond. ICE has lodged a detainer to ensure he is not released.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stressed the importance of cooperation with local authorities, stating, “This illegal alien’s murder of an innocent, beautiful American woman… is a perfect example of why we need cooperation from sanctuary jurisdictions and the importance of third-country removals for the safety of the American people.”
As Fairfax County mourns, officials and family members continue calling for justice while grappling with the shocking violence that claimed a beloved mother’s life.
