A lively and controversial exchange unfolded on Wednesday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience when podcast host Joe Rogan and Jackass star Steve-O dove into the ongoing cultural debate surrounding transgender issues — specifically the question of bathroom access.
By the end of the discussion, Steve-O admitted Rogan had changed his perspective.
“You make a very, very good point,” Steve-O said during the conversation. “Alright, you’ve convinced me.”
The debate began when Steve-O recounted a recent conversation he had with a transgender individual who described what he called severe discrimination. According to Steve-O, the person told him they were not allowed to use the restroom at their workplace, which he said “genuinely broke my heart.”
Rogan immediately pushed back on that characterization.
“That’s not true,” Rogan said. “They’re just not allowed to use the bathroom that doesn’t align with their biological sex.”
Rogan acknowledged that some people sincerely believe they are born in the wrong body, but argued the broader issue becomes complicated when biological males gain access to female-only spaces.
Joe Rogan dragged Steve-O out of his bubble and forced him to confront the truth about transgenderism.
Steve-O told a story of meeting a transgender person and said it broke his heart at the level of “oppression” they were experiencing.

“I genuinely think there’s people that feel like they are in the wrong biological sex,” Rogan said. “But there’s also people that are perverts, and they have a thing called autogynephilia.”
Rogan explained that the term refers to individuals who become sexually aroused by imagining themselves as women. He argued that allowing biological males into women’s bathrooms and locker rooms could create opportunities for bad actors to exploit the system.
“You give them a Willy Wonka golden ticket to go into the women’s locker room and the women’s bathroom to stare at women and pretend you’re a woman,” Rogan said.
Steve-O acknowledged the complexity of the issue but conceded that Rogan’s argument raised legitimate concerns.
“I don’t doubt that that’s real,” Steve-O replied. “And I know that it’s a super complex, nuanced thing.”
Rogan countered that while many aspects of the debate are complicated, certain biological realities are straightforward.
“But here’s what’s not complex: what is your chromosomes?” Rogan said, comparing the bathroom debate to the controversy over transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
Rogan also framed the issue from the perspective of protecting women and girls, noting that as a father of daughters, he worries about potential abuse of open policies.
“And by the way, it’s men that are the problem,” Rogan added. “No one cares about trans men going into the men’s bathroom.”
The conversation continued with Steve-O emphasizing that the transgender person he met did not appear threatening or predatory.

“I didn’t get any sense that this was a creepy pervert,” he said.
Rogan responded that even if someone has no malicious intent, the biological distinction still matters when it comes to female-only spaces.
“They don’t have to be a creepy pervert, but it’s still a man,” Rogan said.
The discussion broadened into wider cultural tensions around transgender issues, with Rogan questioning claims that there is a political movement to persecute transgender individuals.
“Who’s doing that? What politicians are saying they should be put in internment camps?” Rogan asked.
By the end of the exchange, Steve-O acknowledged that Rogan’s arguments had shifted his thinking.
“Alright, you’ve convinced me,” he said.
