Vice President JD Vance leveled serious allegations Friday against Rep. Ilhan Omar, claiming she committed immigration fraud and calling for further investigation.
According to the New York Post, while speaking during an appearance on Benny Johnson’s podcast, Vance alleged that the Minnesota Democrat engaged in illegal activity involving her immigration history.
“We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America,” Vance said.
The vice president went further, accusing Omar of being tied to broader issues within her community.
He claimed the congresswoman “has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters in the Somalian community.”
Vance said he has already begun discussions with Stephen Miller about possible legal avenues related to the allegations.
He described ongoing conversations about how such a case might proceed, raising questions about potential investigative steps.
“How do you go after her? How do you investigate her? How do you actually build the case to actually get some justice for the American people?” Vance said.
The vice president reiterated his concerns extended beyond a single allegation, suggesting broader issues that he believes warrant scrutiny.
“I’m worried about the immigration,” Vance said. “I’m also worried about: What did Ilhan Omar know about what was happening in the Somali-American community? And why was nobody looking into it until, frankly, Donald Trump came along?”
His remarks mark a significant escalation in rhetoric surrounding Omar, who has long been a polarizing figure in national politics.
The allegations referenced by Vance have circulated in political discussions for years, though they have been widely disputed and have not resulted in criminal charges.
Still, Vance’s comments signal renewed attention from top levels of government, as he indicated interest in pursuing what he described as accountability.
No formal investigation or legal action was announced in connection with his remarks.
