President Donald Trump has congratulated Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) after he won GOP Senate primary runoff.

In the same post on Truth Social, the president praised Paxton’s opponent, incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) for “having had a truly great career.”

Paxton walked away with 63.8% of the vote, compared to Cornyn’s 36.2%, according to Decision Desk HQ.

“Congratulations to Ken Paxton on such a tremendous win, and to John Cornyn for having run a strong and powerful race but, more importantly, having had a truly great career,” Trump wrote Wednesday morning. “John will remain my friend for a long time to come, as we both watch Ken become a fantastic, common sense Senator, one who is respected by all.”

Trump also looked ahead to the general election.

“His opponent, Alfred E. Neuman, may be the worst TEXAS candidate I have ever seen. A strong Open Borders advocate, he is WEAK ON CRIME, believes there are 6 genders, is insulting to Jesus Christ, will never support the Military, was a big Mask Wearer until recently, and is a Vegan who dislikes meat, not exactly a good way to be if you’re wanting to win an Election in Texas,” the president wrote, referring to Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico as Neuman.

Trump also took a jab at Talarico’s former opponent, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).

“Jasmine Crockett, a very low IQ individual, who is no relation to the legendary frontiersman, Davy Crockett, would have been a far better choice for the Dumocrats. I will do some nice, big, beautiful rallies for Ken. Texas, this will be FUN! GOD BLESS AMERICA,” Trump concluded.

Should Ken Paxton proceed as the GOP candidate for Senate in Texas despite ethical concerns?

Trump endorsed Paxton last week following months of speculation about how he would weigh in on the race. While Cornyn has touted being a longtime supporter of the president’s policies, past remarks about his administration’s policy agenda have shown a rift growing between the two.

In his late-hour endorsement of Paxton, Trump said the sitting senator, “was not supportive of me when times were tough.”

Cornyn conceded Tuesday night.

I “said throughout this race that I trust the voters of Texas, and they’ve made their decision, and I must respect it.”

He said he would back the GOP ticket against Talarico.

It appears Paxton has some things to overcome on his way to victory in November.

“Paxton has a litany of ethical lapses for Democrats to exploit — from allegations of bribery and misuse of his office to marital infidelity, which led his wife to divorce him on ‘biblical grounds,’” Cook Political Report‘s Jessica Taylor wrote.
