Louisiana Girl Dies of Brain-Eating Amoeba, First Since 2013 — Aug 23, 2026Eight-year-old Lillian Smart of Ruston, Louisiana died from a Naegleria fowleri brain infection believed to have been contracted while swimming in Lake Claiborne.
