India is set to launch its first tokenised corporate bonds next month, with state-owned REC issuing notes and settlement expected to use the central bank digital currency, as regulators push blockchain-based systems to enable near-instant settlement and greater transparency. The pilot, limited to a select group of investors and supported by the RBI and SEBI, includes new infrastructure like DEMAT 2.0 and wallets to record and settle tokenised bonds on distributed ledgers.
