Podcaster and former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan didn’t hold back Wednesday criticizing President Donald Trump following the ceasefire announcement between the United States and Iran.

Trump suspended a planned U.S. attack on Iran and announced a two‑week halt to military action, a pause he said was intended to allow diplomacy to advance after Tehran signaled willingness to negotiate and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Ryan posted on social media to blast the unfolding violence in Lebanon.

“Ceasefire’s barely 24 hours old, and Israel (our greatest ally) is already blowing it up, literally. Largest coordinated strike on Lebanon since the war began,” Ryan wrote. “But sure, another masterclass in negotiation from the guy who threatened to wipe out an entire civilization the day before. Stable genius stuff.”

But sure, another masterclass in negotiation from the guy who threatened to wipe out an entire civilization the day…

Israel launched its deadliest and largest coordinated strikes on Lebanon since the conflict began, hitting more than 100 targets. At least 89 people were killed and more than 700 wounded in Wednesday’s strikes, bringing the total death toll since March to over 1,500, with another million displaced.

Do you think Trump's ceasefire approach is effective given recent events in Lebanon?

Prior to Israel’s attack, Iran launched a series of missile strikes on Israel shortly after Trump announced the ceasefire. Sirens blared across Israel almost immediately, and while the first missiles were intercepted, shrapnel landed outside Jerusalem without causing casualties.

Ryan has repeatedly criticized Trump over foreign policy, as he previously accused the president and his top aides of lying about opposing wars abroad. He highlighted campaign statements portraying Trump as the peace candidate, contrasting them with actions that suggested otherwise.

“Here’s what they said on the campaign trail. Trump adviser Stephen Miller on X: ‘Liz Cheney is Kamala’s top advisor. Liz wants to invade the whole Middle East. Kamala equals World War 3. Trump equals peace;’ Tulsi Gabbard, October 28th, 2024: ‘A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for Dick Cheney and a vote for war, war and more war. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote to end wars, not start them,” Ryan read. “Miller also wrote, ‘Kamala will send your sons to war.’ JD Vance, 2023 on The Wall Street Journal, ‘Trump’s best foreign policy, not starting any wars. He has my support because I know he won’t recklessly send Americans to fight wars overseas.’ The Republican National Committee promoted Trump-Vance as the pro-peace ticket.”

Ryan also slammed the administration over Iran policy, citing the resignation of National Counter-Terrorism Center Director Joe Kent as proof of reckless leadership. Ryan framed the resignation as a wake-up call, arguing it exposed Trump’s dangerous approach to military conflict.

“Sometimes the most impactful statement you can make is a strong resignation. It’s unfortunate it’s come down to this. God’s speed @joekent16jan19, I hope this wakes some people up,” Ryan wrote.
