President Joe Biden is pointing to the Trump administration as the reason for the surge of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
While delivering remarks on Wednesday, Biden explained there are several reasons why so many migrants were headed for the United States, including gang violence, trafficking, cartels, but also natural disasters.
“If you deal with the problems in the country, it benefits everyone. It benefits us, it benefits the people, it grows the economies there. Unfortunately the last administration eliminated that funding and did not engage in it and did not use it even though there was over $700 million to help get this done,” Biden said.
He added, “In the midst of the last administration’s somewhat draconian policies of separating children from their parents… what happened was that we found that there were serious spikes in the number of people heading to the southern border even in the midst of that.”
The president argued it was because there were serious natural disasters occurring in the countries the migrants were coming from.
“They were coming north and we did nothing to do much about it. So this new surge we’re dealing with now started with the last administration but it’s our responsibility to deal with it humanely,” Biden explained.

Trump has not held back on blaming Biden for the crisis at the southern border, as IJR reported.
“When I was president, our southern border was in great shape — stronger, safer, and more secure than ever before. We ended Catch-and-Release, shut down asylum fraud, and crippled the vicious smugglers, drug dealers, and human traffickers,” Trump said in a previous statement.
He continued, “The wall, despite horrendous Democratic delays, would have easily been finished by now, and is working magnificently. Our country is being destroyed at the Southern border, a terrible thing to see!”
According to a report, Biden is under review for freezing congressionally approved funds for the border wall, as IJR reported.
