Brit Hume said on Fox News Wednesday that former President Joe Biden’s recent foreign media interview served as a reminder why many Americans prefer President Donald Trump’s leadership.

Biden told the BBC he struggled to exit the 2024 race because he believed his presidency was highly successful and said the timing of his withdrawal wouldn’t have changed the outcome. During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hume didn’t mince words when describing Biden’s public image, adding that Trump benefits immensely from side-by-side comparisons.

“It’s a reminder of just how enfeebled Biden had become well before he left office. And I can’t believe that anybody, any sentient person, the sentient person in the Democratic Party, is wanting Joe Biden to be back out there talking and seeming as decrepit as he seems,” Hume told Baier, the host.

Hume said Trump still holds a far more “commanding presence.”

“Whatever you think about President Trump, he benefits from a comparison to Biden because, whatever you think about what President Trump is saying or doing, he is by far a more commanding presence, which I think is what people want in a president,” Hume said.

Biden claimed Democrats had a “good candidate” in the 2024 race, referring to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who stepped in as the party’s nominee after Biden exited the race in July 2024 following a widely criticized debate performance. Trump defeated Harris, carrying all seven battleground states and winning the popular vote.

Biden’s term saw major economic setbacks, with inflation hitting 9.1% in June 2022 and energy prices surging due to reduced domestic oil and gas production. His administration funneled resources into green energy projects, but voters ranked the economy as a top issue heading into 2024.

On the world stage, Biden oversaw the chaotic 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, where a suicide bombing killed 13 U.S. troops and 160 civilians. He also pushed DEI programs across the federal government, though polling showed more Americans supported ending those initiatives than keeping them.
