Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump should consider any legal action to force Democrat Boston Mayor Michelle Wu to comply with federal immigration laws.
Wu declared on Tuesday that she would not comply with Attorney General Pam Bondi’s request to send a plan on complying with federal immigration law, stating that the administration must stop “attacking” American cities. Kirk said on “Fox & Friends” that the nation is reaching “perilous grounds” where Wu and other sanctuary city officials are openly defying federal law enforcement’s efforts.
“What the mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, is doing is she is acting in a Neo-confederate way where she is basically saying, ‘we’re gonna have our own laws here in Boston.’ We’re not gonna have the federal supremacy of our city,” Kirk said. “You think of the implications of that, everyone would be up in arms if a southern state would even dare whisper this kind of behavior. But we’re putting up with it in Boston or Philadelphia, San Francisco or Los Angeles. And you don’t get to carve out your own little thiefdoms in America’s biggest cities against federal law enforcement.”

Kirk stated that the administration needs to look into “every possible legal recourse” to forcefully make sanctuary city mayors work alongside Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officers.
“This is the bare minimum,” Kirk continued. “We’re not asking them to march with ICE down the streets of Boston. We’re not asking for them to go into Logan Park and work with ICE. We’re asking, ‘hey, when there’s someone that’s a criminal alien illegal, can you at least make sure that you hand them over?’ And Michelle Wu is actively harboring, she’s admitted to this, and she’s actively involved in what could only be described as verging on Neo-confederate behavior. I hope the Trump administration looks at every possible legal recourse because we can’t not put up with this in our country.”
In a letter to Wu and other Democratic mayors, Bondi threatened to withhold all federal funding and file civil suits if the cities refused to comply with the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) demands.
“By Tuesday, August 19, 2025, please submit a response to this letter that confirms your commitment to complying with federal law and identifies the immediate initiatives you are taking to eliminate laws, policies, and practices that impede federal immigration enforcement,” Bondi wrote. “This letter does not constitute final agency action and nothing in this letter creates any right or benefit enforceable at law against the United States.”
Wu claimed during a Tuesday press conference that Boston, unlike the federal government, follows the law. She did not specify which law the administration is currently violating.
“The U.S. Attorney General asked for a response by today. So here it is, here is our response. Stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures. Unlike the Trump administration, Boston follows the law. And Boston will not back down from who we are and what we stand for,” Wu said.
White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller warned on “Hannity” that blue city mayors like Wu could face “potential criminal charges for harboring and smuggling” criminal illegal immigrants.
During a March 5 hearing, Wu and Democrat Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson refused to answer whether or not they would hand over criminal illegal immigrants to ICE when repeatedly pressed by Oversight Committee chairman James Comer.
