Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is no longer recognized as a member of the Republican Party by GOP groups in two Wyoming counties.

The Republican parties for Park and Carbon counties voted unanimously to back the move, as the Casper Star-Tribune reports. Martin Kimmet, the chairman of the Park County Republicans, penned a letter to Cheney Thursday.

“You will no longer be recognized as the official Republican Congressional Representative by the Park County Republican Party,” Kimmet wrote.

Joey Correnti, chairman of the Carbon County Republican Party, told the outlet, “Park County set up the ball, Carbon County spiked it.”

He added, “And now other counties, I say by the end of the week you’ll have at least three or four other counties that are having meetings that will pass a similar resolution.”

According to Correnti, at least one member from the Republican parties in Uinta, Big Horn, Laramie, and Weston counties has requested copies of the resolution from Carbon County.

Should Cheney be recognized as a member?

The Wyoming Republican Party blasted Cheney in January after she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump following the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, as IJR previously reported.

The Casper-Star Tribune points out the letters from the counties to Cheney use words by the former president.

“In short, and in the immortal words of the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump… ‘You’re Fired!'” the letters read.

Spokesperson Jeremy Adler explained how Cheney would “continue to fight for all the people of Wyoming,” adding, “She knows that she and all elected officials are bound by their duty under the US Constitution, not by blind loyalty to one man.”

In May, House Republicans ousted Cheney from her leadership post, as IJR previously reported.

“I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office,” Cheney said.
