On Monday, President Donald Trump retweeted a doctored photo that featured Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in a turban and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in a hijab, a move that the White House later defended. During an appearance on “The View” on Tuesday, Schumer responded.

Schumer said, “I say, ‘How low can the president go?’ It relates to a larger point, Whoopi, which is the foreign policy that he has created — whether it’s in North Korea or in Syria or in Russia, can be summarized in three words: erratic, impulsive and egotistical.”

He continued, “And that’s why we’re so worried about what’s happening in Iran. The mothers and fathers of America don’t want another endless war in the Middle East and yet the president could force us into one, or more likely, bumble into one.”

The Senate Democrats leader also said that while they’re focused on impeachment, they’re planning to vote on a war powers resolution, saying, “We’ll vote on something called the war powers resolution that says he can’t go to war, increase large numbers of troops in the Middle East without Congressional approval.”

Trump appears to have been attacking Schumer and Pelosi over their criticism of his handling of a decision to take out a top Iranian general.

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham defended Trump’s tweet, saying, “I think the president is making clear that the Democrats are, have been, parroting Iranian talking points and almost taking the side of terrorists and those who were out to kill the Americans. I think the president was making the point that the Democrats seem to hate him so much that they’re willing to be on the side of countries and leadership of countries who want to kill Americans.”

Schumer also responded to a story about the president’s decision to peddle a doctored image of him, asking on Twitter, “How low can you go?”
