Comedian James Corden is making headlines again, but this time it does not have anything to do with his behavior at a restaurant.

Political commentator Rupert Meyers posted a video of a moment during Corden’s show during which he made a joke about Twitter that appeared very similar to one previously made by Ricky Gervais.

“When you see Elon Musk talk about Twitter, he does this thing where he goes, ‘It’s the town square,’” Corden said.

He added, “But it isn’t, because if someone puts up a poster in a town square that says ‘guitar lessons available.'”

The video then cuts to Gervais, saying, “That’s like going into a town square, seeing a big notice board and there’s a notice: Guitar lessons.”

Corden then continues, “You don’t get people in the town going: ‘I don’t wanna play the guitar!’”

The footage cuts back to Gervais telling the audience, “Then you go, ‘But I don’t f***ing want guitar lessons.”

Concluding his comments Corden said, “Well then that sign wasn’t for you. It was for somebody else. You don’t have to get mad about all of it.”

The video ends with Gervais adding, “Fine, it’s not for you then, just walk away! Don’t worry about it.”

Watch the video below:

I know Corden is very unlikely to have written this bit himself: this snafu is a good opportunity for him to take responsibility & not throw the person who wrote his script under a bus.

The Hollywood Reporter noted Gervais initially shared a clip from Corden’s show and commented, “The bit about the town square advert for guitar lessons is brilliant.”

He then deleted the tweet.

One user wrote on Twitter, “Didn’t deliver it like you though. I assume he asked to use that joke?”

Gervais replied, “No. I reckon one of the writers ‘came up with it’ for him. I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand up routine word for word like that.”

When asked why he deleted his original tweet about the matter, Gervais wrote, “Started to feel sorry for him,” with a laughing emoji.

Started to feel sorry for him 😂

The criticism comes just weeks after Corden landed himself in hot water after allegedly treating staff at a restaurant poorly, as IJR reported.
