Shedeur Sanders celebrated a winning first start for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but the spotlight quickly turned to his father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, and the faith that both men say guides their lives.
According to Fox News, after the Browns’ 24-10 victory, Shedeur reflected on his performance, attributing his poise and success to hard work and divine guidance.
“God was the only way I was able to get through it. It was great,” he said. “Two days ago, we all had a big conversation in the locker room, you know, just about God and just our purpose. I’m just thankful. This ain’t me, this is nothing but God’s work. He’s the only one that allows me to continue to play, continue to keep going, continue to do that.”
Deion Sanders, who attended the game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, highlighted the spiritual connection he shares with his son, quote-tweeting Shedeur’s interview and adding his own simple tribute: “Thank u Jesus.”
The young quarterback went 11-for-20 for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception, entering the game with confidence rather than nerves.
“Like I said, before going into the game, I didn’t feel nerves. I didn’t feel anything,” Shedeur explained. “I did as much work as I can during the week, so Sundays would be fun.”
He also praised his offensive line for their support and acknowledged the presence of family and fans. “My pops here, my mom’s here, all my people are here. You see all the [No.] 12 jerseys out there. It’s amazing. I’m just thankful,” he said.
The Sanders duo shared a heartfelt moment before kickoff, with Deion beaming as he watched his son take the field. Though Shedeur’s debut was impressive, both father and son underscored that faith remains central to their lives, on and off the football field.
As Shedeur continues his career with the Browns, the combination of talent, hard work, and spiritual grounding is expected to keep the spotlight on both him and his legendary father.
