A male Democratic New York C-SPAN caller wept on Monday as he reflected on President Donald Trump’s peacemaking between Israel and Hamas following his speech on the topic.

Trump delivered a speech discussing the Israel-Hamas peace deal at the Israeli Knesset on Monday. The caller said on “Washington Journal” that the president’s speech was “momentous” and that he hoped the peace deal would inspire New York City to disavow Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani.

WATCH:

“That was a — I’m going to get choked up — a momentous speech,” the caller said. “And I’m a conservative Democrat living here in New York where this example of bringing peace to everyone should be thought of in New York City, where out of ignorance, the people are about to elect a guy who’s pro-terrorist, pro-Hamas, who’s friends with his people in Uganda, a country that lawfully executes people for being gay. And this should be a wake-up call to everyone that people can live together.”

“I think the future, if the Gazans really accept the goodness and the money that’s going to come from the Arab community and from the world community, it can be a different world,” he added. “And I’m sorry for being so emotional, but it’s a great moment in history for everyone. And we have to reject hate. We have to reject Antifa. We have to reject Mamdani. And we have to come together as human beings. I’m an old guy. Life is short. And we should live it with love.”

Trump traveled to Israel on Monday to celebrate and preside over the first phase of the deal, which included the release of all the hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, along with the withdrawal of Israeli troops to a designated line. Hamas released each of the 20 living Israeli hostages and they returned to their families on Monday.

Republican strategist Scott Jennings also became emotional on Thursday about an Israeli hostage whose mother he met over the summer as he praised Trump for the deal.

“It’ll probably go down as the most historic moment in either of his two presidencies. Peace in the Middle East … all day long I have been thinking about Idit Ohel, who I met in Israel this summer,” Jennings said. “I was traveling there. And she is the mother of Alon Ohel. You may have heard of Alon. He was taken hostage at the Nova music festival. He’s the jazz pianist … I will never forget meeting with her and just the shattered life of a mother waiting for her son to come home … now he’s going to come home and Donald Trump is responsible for it.”
