Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked President Donald Trump on Wednesday whether he wants to see former FBI Director James Comey and former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan “behind bars.”
The FBI launched a criminal probe into Comey and Brennan for potential wrongdoing relating to the investigation into the now-debunked Steele dossier, which alleged that Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia to help aid him in the election. Trump told Doocy during a multilateral lunch that both Brennan and Comey may “have to pay a price” for being “dishonest” and “crooked.”
“Do you want to see [Brennan and Comey] behind bars?” Doocy asked.
“Well, I know nothing about it other than what I read today. But I will tell you, I think they are dishonest people, I think they’re crooked as hell,” Trump said. “And maybe they have to pay a price for that. I believe they are truly bad people and dishonest people, so whatever happens, happens.”

CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred evidence of wrongdoing by Brennan to FBI Director Kash Patel, which stems from declassifying a “lessons learned” review of the creation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA). The review found that the process of compiling the ICA had been marked by “procedural anomalies,” allegedly allowing officials to divert from typical standards.
Brennan also allegedly made false statements to Congress in 2023 by telling the House Judiciary Committee that he did not approve of the Steele dossier being included in the ICA. The newly declassified information by Ratcliffe shows that Brennan had, in fact, pushed for the dossier to be included.
An investigation into Comey is also underway to probe any alleged wrongdoing on his part. In 2018, he told Congress that the FBI had not verified the infamous dossier before the agency had used it to obtain spy warrants on Trump’s then-campaign adviser Carter Page. He later told the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2020 that the FBI had not notified him about issues pertaining to Igor Danchenko, who was the primary source for the dossier’s author Christopher Steele, a former British spy.
On multiple occasions, Comey falsely claimed to the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees that Republicans initially backed the infamous dossier.
