Elon Musk is catching some heat after a post questioning that there has been no assassination attempts against President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris.
And instead of apology, he bemoaned that people can’t take a joke.
The post in question came after a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump Sunday while he was golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, per Mediaite.
“And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Harris,” Musk posted on the platform he owns, X, formerly Twitter, with a thinking emoji.
The post has since been deleted, but not before X users took Musk to task for his post.
“This is appalling and indefensible,” one person posted.
“WTF??? @SecretService you may want to pay this guy a visit. He ain’t right in the head!” another posted.
“He is right in the head and he knows what he is doing. Inciting violence,” a third suggested.
Musk responded to the backlash by stating it was just a joke.
“Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X,” the billionaire said in one post.
In another post, Musk wrote, “Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text.”
A second attempt was made on Trump Sunday when Ryan Wesley Routh allegedly planned to shoot Trump as the former president played golf, per Mediaite.
However, Secret Service agents noticed Routh’s gun and stopped the gunman before any harm was done.
