A routine afternoon in Portland was shattered by gunfire Thursday when federal officers were involved in a shooting that left two people wounded, according to the FBI.
The incident unfolded around midafternoon near the 10000 block of Main Street, drawing a swift law enforcement response and triggering a federal investigation, according to Fox News
Authorities have released a few details so far, citing the early and active nature of the probe.
In a public statement posted on X, the bureau confirmed it is leading the investigation into the shooting, which involved agents from Customs and Border Protection.
“FBI Portland is investigating an agent involved shooting that happened at approximately 2:15pm near the 10000 block of Main St. in Portland involving Customs and Border Patrol Agents in which 2 individuals were wounded,” the agency wrote.
Officials emphasized that the case remains open as agents work to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the gunfire.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation led by the FBI. Please follow this thread for updates regarding this matter,” the statement continued.
Social media users noted that the statement was subsequently deleted from the FBI Portland’s X account.
The area around Main Street was partially restricted in the immediate aftermath as law enforcement secured the scene and began collecting evidence. Witnesses in the area were urged to cooperate with investigators if they had relevant information.
For now, the FBI says its focus remains on determining the circumstances of the shooting and ensuring transparency as more facts become available.
