House Oversight Committee Republicans are accusing Democrats of using the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein to attack President Donald Trump, rather than focusing on securing justice for Epstein’s victims.
According to Fox News, the outlet obtained a 10-page internal GOP memo claiming that Democrats deliberately misrepresented information obtained from Republicans to create a false narrative about Trump.
“Unfortunately, during this investigation, Oversight Committee Democrats, led by Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), have intentionally mischaracterized witness testimony and selectively released information with targeted redactions in an effort to create another hoax involving President Trump,” the memo said.
The memo argued that when Republicans released full documents, Democrats accused them of attempting to “disorient” the public, while, according to GOP staffers, Democrats were the ones manipulating the narrative.
The committee’s bipartisan investigation was initially aimed at transparency, but partisan tensions have escalated. Democrats have criticized Republicans for allegedly protecting Trump, who had known Epstein but has never been tied to criminal activity.
“The Democrats have uncovered nothing new, have released no document not provided at the request of Republicans, and have only succeeded in reinforcing what the American people already knew: President Trump knew Jeffrey Epstein decades ago, President Trump ended the relationship with Epstein, and President Trump did not participate or know about the nature of Epstein’s evil,” the memo said.
Republicans also highlighted former Attorney General Bill Barr’s deposition, which they said cleared Trump of wrongdoing, and accused Democrats of twisting his statements to imply limited knowledge.
The GOP memo further alleged that Democrats selectively leaked three emails from roughly 23,000 provided by the Epstein estate to cast Trump in a negative light. It said Democrats redacted context in emails from Epstein and Virginia Giuffre, which obscured references to other figures like Prince Andrew.
“Democrats are not concerned with transparency or justice,” the memo concluded. “The evidence the Oversight Committee has gathered does not implicate President Trump in any way. Democrats must stop playing games in this investigation.”
The memo comes ahead of a House vote on a bipartisan bill demanding the DOJ release all files related to Epstein. Trump encouraged Republicans to support the measure, calling the investigation a “Democrat Hoax” and asserting, “We have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on.”
