GOP Rep Hands Out Odd Gift to Fellow House Members

Share

Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) kicked off his first term by bringing an odd gift to hand out to his colleagues.

Morgan Phillips, reporter for the Daily Mail, tweeted, “Rep [Cory Mills FL] is passing out grenades to fellow House members.”

The grenade also came with a letter.

“Welcoming you to a mission-oriented 118th Congress. I am eager to get to work for the American people, and I look forward to working with you to deliver on this commitment. I am honored to be a part of the Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees,” Mills wrote.

He continued, “In that spirit, it is my pleasure to give you a 40mm grenade, made for a MK19 grenade launcher. These are manufactured in the Sunshine State and first developed in the Vietnam War.”

Concluding the letter, Mills said, “Let’s come together and get to work on behalf of our constituents.”

He also added a note, saying, “*These Florida manufactured 40mm grenades are inert.”

Mills spokesman Juan Ayala told The Washington Post, “Per the letter, the grenades are inert, and were cleared through all security metrics.”

Is this a good gift?

He added, “I just wish they tagged our official account.”

Some Twitter users did not think the gift was a good idea.

Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, tweeted, “Literally in any other work place in America this guy would immediately be fired and very likely arrested. What does it say about us that the craziest workplace in the country is where our representatives gather?”

Podcast host Fred Wellman replied, “‘Jackassery’ is the term you’re looking for.”

Political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen wrote, “Republicans’ entire personalities are just guns and weapons. That’s all.”

Senior entertainment editor for Rolling Stone Marlow Stern added, “Big loser energy.”

Mills won his election in November and now represents Florida’s 7th Congressional District.
