Gwyneth Paltrow is receiving backlash over her recent comments about the children of celebrities having to work “almost twice as hard” as their counterparts in the industry.
Paltrow made her comments during a recent interview with a fellow celebrity’s child, Hailey Bieber, during an appearance on Bieber’s “Who’s In My Bathroom.”
Paltrow spoke to the subject of nepotism and having famous parents saying “I mean, look, I think it’s fair, right? Because as the child of somebody — you get access that other people don’t have. Right, so the playing field is not level in that way.”
Both women are the children of famous parents, with Paltrow the daughter of Blythe Danner a Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress, and Bieber, a model, is the daughter of Stephen Baldwin and niece of Alec, Daniel, and William Baldwin, in addition to being married to singer Justin Bieber.
Paltrow went on to talk about her experience in acting: “I really do feel that once your foot is in the door, which you unfairly got in, then you have to work almost twice as hard and be twice as good because people are ready to pull you down and say, ‘You don’t belong there.’ And you’re only there because of your dad or your mom or whatever the case may be,” she continued.
“It shouldn’t limit you because what I definitely believe is that nobody in the world, especially anybody that doesn’t know you, should have a negative impact on your path or the decisions that you make,” she concluded.

The actress received harsh backlash on social media with many saying that Paltrow’s comments speak to her own inability to relate to the struggles of those without famous family members.
“There is nothing surprising about this coming from Gwyneth Paltrow, the most ignorantly out of touch celebrity in the world,” said one Twitter user.
Another said, “Would love to know how hard GP worked during the audition process to get the part of Wendy in Hook… (coincidentally Directed by her godfather Steven Spielberg).”
Some of those responses were featured on “The Talk,” where hosts quoted disgruntled viewers’ responses to the conversation.

"For people that have paved their own way, it is a huge thing to have that door open for you already. It's a huge thing for people to even get that moment." @nmoralestv pic.twitter.com/nhIGBh4LqX
“Give me a break!! Get a ‘real’ problem Gwyneth,” responded another user. “No matter how you spin this, what she said is pathetic.”
Another seemingly frustrated Twitter user asked, “Is there anyone more pretentious than Gwyneth?”
