Hall of Fame Quarterback Sparks Backlash for Comment Made During ‘Fox NFL Sunday’

Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw received criticism after making a comment about suicide during “Fox NFL Sunday.”

Bradshaw made the comment while weighing in on the matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.

“Their mentality is throw, throw, throw, throw. I think if this kid ran five or six runs in a row, I think he’d commit suicide or something,” Bradshaw said.

His comment sparked stunned reactions from his co-hosts.

Michael Strahan looked into the camera with a confused look.

Howie Long said, “Woah, woah, woah that’s a little dark for this audience.”

Curt Menefee chimed in, “That’s a little dark for all of us.”

Another user tweeted, “Terry Bradshaw is [garbage]. Suicide is not a joke. Men are 3x more likely to die by suicide than women and this shmuck is out here making these statements on national television. [Fox Sports NFL] this is gross.”

Does Bradshaw deserve the criticism?

The comment came just days after Bradshaw opened up about why he waited to publicly share about his cancer diagnosis.

Bradshaw first received his diagnosis of bladder cancer and a type of skin cancer that is aggressive and rare called a Merkel cell tumor in 2021.

He shared the diagnosis publicly last month.

“I didn’t talk about it because I didn’t want pity,” Bradshaw told NBC News.

He added, “I didn’t talk about it because a lot of celebrities — unfortunately, I’m one of those — when they say this, I think the perception around America with all the the millions of people is, ‘Aw, look at him. Bless his heart. He has cancer. Well, my husband died of cancer! My kids are…’ I didn’t want that.”

The former quarterback continued, “Took me a long time before I told my family.”
