Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the app would walk back changes made following a wave of complaints.

Earlier this week, Kylie Jenner shared an image to her Instagram story that said, “Make Instagram Instagram again. (stop trying to be TikTok I just want to see cute photos of my friends.) Sincerely, everyone.”

Kim Kardashian also complained about the changes.

During an interview with Platformer, Mosseri responded to the criticism.

“I’m glad we took a risk — if we’re not failing every once in a while, we’re not thinking big enough or bold enough,” Mosseri said.

He added, “But we definitely need to take a big step back and regroup. [When] we’ve learned a lot, then we come back with some sort of new idea or iteration. So we’re going to work through that.”

According to Mosseri, “For the new feed designs, people are frustrated and the usage data isn’t great.”

He continued, “So there I think that we need to take a big step back, regroup, and figure out how we want to move forward.”

Platformer noted Instagram will phase out a test version of the app that opened to full-screen photos and videos over the next few weeks.

Additionally, the app will make a reduction to the number of recommended posts as it tries to improve its algorithms, as the outlet reported.

Mosseri also released a video to Twitter addressing concerns surrounding the platform’s transition to videos.

“We’re going to continue to support photos, it’s part of our heritage,” Mosseri said.

👋🏼 There’s a lot happening on Instagram right now.

I wanted to address a few things we’re working on to make Instagram a better experience.

He continued, “I need to be honest: I do believe that more and more of Instagram is going to become video over time.”
