New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) is ending her campaign for governor and says she will run for reelection instead.

In a tweet on Thursday, she wrote, “I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general. There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job.”

“I am running for re-election to complete the work New Yorkers elected me to do,” she added.

In October, James announced her bid for governor, as IJR reported.

She would have faced off against New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who assumed the office after former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) resigned in the wake of an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.

On Wednesday, Politico’s “New York Playbook” noted that James “has been lying abnormally low by any standard, especially in an historic campaign against political veteran Gov. Kathy Hochul.”

“Since launching her campaign six weeks ago, James has avoided events like press conferences that could earn appearances on local news or allow the opportunity to pontificate on policy. Her campaign website contains fewer than 150 words,” it added.

The same day James ended her campaign, The Washington Post reported that she is “seeking a deposition from former president Donald Trump early next year as part of her investigation into potential fraud inside the Trump Organization.”

“James has requested to take his testimony on Jan. 7 at her New York office as part of a civil investigation into whether Trump’s company committed financial fraud in the valuations of properties to different entities, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the inquiry is ongoing,” the Post added.

The Trump Organization blasted James in a statement as it claimed the “only focus of the New York AG is to investigate Trump, all for her own political ambitions.”
